What would you do for a sticker?
I'm free! After weeks of feeling like a criminal, I finally got my license plates renewed today. This is a process I began back in July, they expired in August, I got a ticket in October, but I finally got everything I needed to make them legal today. I won't bore you with the tedious details so insert your own bureaucratic red tape horror story here.
The thing is I never questioned any of the fees they asked me to pay (close to $500 for 2 years) I just ran around town like a trained monkey getting the required paperwork, inspections and vouchers. At the end of it all they gave me a little sticker to put on my plate.
I started wondering "if they make us go through that kind of circus to put a sticker on my car, imagine what it would be like to have universal healthcare." I'm sorry, but I don't want the same people that refuse to take my money for a sticker without an inane amount of purposeless activity to be in charge of whether or not I get a kidney.
OK back to business. This is an example of why capitalism is soooo much better. If you were selling these stickers as your business there is no way you could get away with treating your customers like this. But I wonder if there are things you expect your customers to do before they can do business with you like fill out a form, make a call or take a survey. If you have more business than you know what to do with I guess you can afford to run your customers thought the gauntlet. If not, maybe you should make sure there is no red tape to doing business with you.
I am now working full time as the web strategist for Joyce Meyer Ministries. Web strategy can be summed up in a sentence: help people find what they are looking for quickly and easily then get out of the way. If you are putting up barriers to your customers purchasing you should rethink your business plan.
Is there any busy work your customers must do before they can buy your product?

Sometimes it makes me feel like they are testing us like the scientist do with mice in the maze. Kudos for getting through it all and getting your tag and even bigger kudos for working with Joyce - I'm sure that is going to be a fabulous experience - can't wait to hear more about it! |
