Quick Tip to Organize Your Workspace

Is your desk a mess? One way to overcome a messy work area is to place items in relation to their usefulness. Items you use all the time should be at arm's length.
Things you use rarely, like reference materials, can be stowed on a shelf across the room. Only have files close by that you use all the time, the rest can go in a file cabinet.
Besides reducing clutter, you are sure to have the things you really use close at hand.
Are the items in your workspace organized in relation to the frequency of their use?

Take an Hourly Break

Give your brain a break at least once an hour. There is a reason that most classes are scheduled to be 50 minutes long. Even if you don't leave your desk, try to give yourself a mental break. It may seem like you are playing hookie, but you will actually improve your productivity by getting away for a break.
Have you had a break today?

Get Ergonomic

Be ergonomic by making sure your work area is a good fit for your body. How you sit where your desk is, how you set up your monitor and/or workstation can make a big difference in how you feel at the end of the day.
If you are having pain in your arm try a trackball mouse. I won't compute without one anymore. And if you feel a little depressed, try opening the window shade or installing natural lighting. These little changes can make a big difference in how well you do you work and how long.
Are you working ergonomically?

Always Carry a Pen

Always carry a pen. You may need it to:
- Jot down your next million dollar idea
- To record important information (like at an accident scene)
- To get someone's contact info who forgot their card
- To look like a hero to someone else who needs a pen
There are some sleek models that fit in your front pocket. My favorite is the Space Pen. Don't leave home with out packin' some ink.
How has a pen saved your bacon in the past?

Open a Window

Hey, let some air in there. Real life is not like the cheesy ads for laptop computers. You probably are not sitting on the beach with your computer. More likely you have been cooped up in your office all day.
Open a window. Can't open the window or you don't have one in your cubicle? Take a walk outside. It's good for you and what's good for you is good for your productivity.
You need sunlight and fresh air on occasion. Did you know Vitamin D comes from the sun? Take a walk and if anyone asks what you are doing smile and say "gettin' some D, just gettin' some D..."
When's the last time you went outside, breathed fresh air or saw sunlight?

Obama Reads My Blog!

I'm as surprised as you are, but based on his words today he must have read my post about owning up to your mistakes on Monday. It's the most plausible explanation. Occam's Razor baby.
Being a small government kind of guy I did not vote for Obama. But I have to say it is refreshing to hear a politician take accountability. Clinton should have done the same thing. Way to go Prez!
Are you an avid reader of Obama's favorite blog?

The Odiogo plug in allows for audio access to those who want it, and those who need it
I found this free plug in from Odiogo that creates an audio version of all of my blog posts. It is a really cool idea and I wish it were available for more sites. There are a lot of blogs I would love to have read to me in the car on my iPod.
The other reason I decided to add the feature to my site is to make it more accessible to those who are visually impaired. Not that they are deprived if they can't read my blog, but I'm glad to do my part to make the web more available to everyone. If nothing else maybe others will see what I have done and add Odiogo or a similar service to their site.
Let me know what you think.
What do you think of the Odigo audio service? How could you make your website and/or business more accessible?

67 Years Ago This Morning The World Was Changed Forever
This short video will give you the background of what happened that day. Below are some lessons to be learned that apply to war, life and business.
Be prepared. Though the Japanese had been posturing for months, the US was woefully unprepared for the attack.
Don't go half way. Lucky for the US the Japanese did not finish the job. They could have done more damage and severely crippled the US for years had they continued their attack. When you decide to make a commitment, go all the way. Do it halfway and you'll get crushed like a grape.
Listen to your underlings. When the radar operator saw the planes blipping on his radar he was told they were just birds by his superiors. I am still amazed how little those in charge listen to their front line employees. Big mistake.
Be bold and strike first. The Japanese had the strategic advantage by making the first move. If they had gone full force they would likely still own the Pacific. There is a huge advantage to being first.
Loyalties change. Japan moved from our worst enemy to a loyal ally, trading partner and friend. Don't burn your bridges and be open to mending relationships. Also realize that loyal customers can leave you and/or be swayed away from your competitors.
Say thank you. A lot of brave people gave their lives to fight off this attack and to win back freedom for the Pacific. So to our veterans I say "Thank you for your service!"
